JUNIOR PROJECT ENGINEER
Superfab is a design lab and fabrication house located in the heart of SE Portland. We are skilled craftsmen who think fluently in the languages of Architecture and Design, wielding tools both new and old to produce exceptional custom work in production level scales and orders of one, alike. We work daily with some of the finest architects and designers around and for clients who range from some of the most groundbreaking and influential companies on the planet to bootstrapping small businesses and simply inspired individuals.
We are presently looking to hire a junior project engineer in our studio. The fundamental work in this position lies in investigating and ultimately developing critically considered solutions to design problems within the framework of a structured design development process. This work occurs primarily in drawings, digital models, and physical mockups and prototypes. The process culminates with the development of production files to be used by our shop and fabrication partners to produce the final product(s).
Junior Project Engineers will spend much of their early time at Superfab in our model shop in order to acclimate to our process and methods. The model shop provides architectural models for clients, as well as internal studies of furniture and installation projects.
You're expected to be smart, curious, personable, detail oriented and organized. The ability to think ahead and foresee future needs is critical to this position. The desire and ability to learn quickly and constantly improve is a standard requirement among everyone at Superfab, and your position would be no different. Making great things is a team sport. Some overtime may be required. Other requirements are as follows:
Associates Degree or equiv.
+ bonus for college (architecture, engineering, design or related area preferred)
2 years experience (minimum) in AEC or design related field
2D/3D experience in Rhino (or AutoCAD) - intermediate level required
+ bonus for experience with Inventor, Solidworks, Grasshopper
Production of shop drawings for fabrication
Fundamental understanding of digital fabrication tools, techniques and processes (particularly CNC and laser)
Hands-on experience with making/fabrication of your own designs
+bonus for architectural model making
General computer proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, Google Calendar + Google Mail
+ bonus for experience with Adobe Creative Suite
$18-25/hr, depending on experience.
Full-time (40 hrs/week) with possibility of overtime.
